What is Skype and Why Should You Care?
5 Comments Published by eJone 2 years, 6 months ago in Click TechWhat is Skype?
According to the Skype FAQ:
Skype is a free program that uses the latest P2P (cutting edge p2p technology) technology to bring affordable and high-quality voice communications to people all over the world.
A simpler and more exact definition would be:
Skype is an Internet telephony or Voice-over-IP (VoIP) service provider that offers free calling between computers and low-cost calling to regular telephones that aren’t connected to the Internet
How does it work?
When you use software downloaded from Skype, you can connect to other Skype users so that you can talk and chat. Similar to Yahoo/MSN Messenger.
Behind the software however, is a different matter:
Well that didn’t last very long at all haha! The problem with the K2 theme was that it looks too much like a blog and I’m trying to move away from that. The K2 theme (which is still in beta) is feature-rich since it was developed specially for Wordpress 2.0. However, I have gone back to a pre-2.0 theme for now as I think it suits my purpose better.
I also appear to be struggling with content at the moment. You may notice that my first few entries on eJoneclicks.com was very mundane and trivial. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to share and posted some entries on latest happenings in the world of technology and Internet.
I have chosen yet a different theme for my website. This must be the err.. 3rd or 4th one; I’m beginning to lose count. I quite like the previous 3-column theme, but when I ran it through the W3C Markup Validation Service, it came back with 79 errors! Bah! To be honest, I can’t be bothered to try and fix the errors when I’m struggling with content. Furthermore, I’ve been using Safari and Firefox on my Mac to view the website. When I viewed it using Internet Explorer 6.0 on my only chunky Dell laptop, the website was a total mess! The columns were not side-by-side but beneath each other!
Serious Vulnerabilities in Wordpress 2.0.1
0 Comments Published by eJone 2 years, 6 months ago in Click News, SecurityBeing new to Wordpress, I scour the web as much as possible to learn more about it. Nothing scares me more than finding out that it can be hacked into, especially when I don’t know much about it. According to CountZero on his blog, multiple security vulnerabilities were found in Wordpress 2.0.1 (which is what I’m using at the moment) by a Spain-based security research team called Neo Security Team (NST). You can find the full published advisories on their website.
There is currently a discussion thread on the Wordpress support site regarding this and mentions of the new 2.0.2 in the works to fix the problems. CountZero has even kindly provided instructions and a small patch to fix what he thinks are the two major issues.
I first came up with the idea for eJoneClicks.com in January, I had a rough idea of how I want it to look like, based on other IT-related technical websites I came across during my usual everyday clicks. It has been a while since I last sat down and developed a website.
I was shocked to find how much the world wide web has changed in terms of style, development and engineering. The last time I touched a piece of HTML code was when I first started work after graduating back in 1998. Back then, a typical website would require the following things :
